smoke|pain
Action, ebó-performance, ebó-installation, 2017
Stones, fire, alcohol, 7 dry leaves; assorted objects
9 herb arrangements form a circle and demarcate the space. 9 forces positioned in a circle. An action of repetitions, marking the ground with bare feet, carrying stones, moving them from one space/time to another, moving rocks.
Exhausting the body, effort and weight.
Smoke|pain is an action of toiling to prepare the body, to smoke other bodies and mine.
Create a territory, a stone settlement on the ground, a circular wall to protect my body. Destroy it and rebuild it in the intensity of the setting sun.
Exhausted... I feel the trance, blinds me.
I burn the leaves - in a circular motion.
9 bonfires are lit, sounds and smells.
I carry the fire in my hands.
On injured feet.
I smoke the space, stop deep cuts with sand, clean my body with smoke.
I leave traces stuck in the earth, in the coming and going of moving rocks from one space-time to another time-space.
A wall of circular-shaped stones, ashes and embers are seated in the place.
The action was carried out during an artisanal ceramic firing at the University of Vale do São Francisco.
